Cross Bidding

For developers, Cross Promotion is a very important part of the marketing strategy. It can not only help promote new applications, but also maintain user activity. OpenMediation's Cross Bidding function can help developers to monetize applications while promoting their own applications or other online applications in regular placements and specific cross-promotion placements.

Before starting:

  • Please check the OpenMediation SDK version of your application. For Cross Bidding, support is available from SDK 2.0+.
  • Please check whether your account has activated the Cross Bidding. If it is not activated (there is no Cross Bidding at the top navigation), you need to contact your account manager.

How to set up Cross Promotion ?

1. Activate exclusive Ad Network:Cross Bidding

Cross Bidding Ad Network is a system internal Ad Network that is closed by default.

Step 1:

  1. Click Monetize in the top navigation bar, or directly click the location of the selected App.

  1. Click Ad Network in the APP navigation bar.
  2. Drag the Ad Network list to see the cross-promotion Ad Network (Cross Bidding) at the bottom.

Step 2:

The Cross Bidding Ad Network is closed by default in OpenMediation.

When you want to use this function, click the Enable button to activate the Cross Bidding Ad Network.

(When the Cross Bidding Ad Network is closed, all relevant instances in Placement under the current app will be closed.)

2. Activate Cross Promotion Instance

When the Cross Bidding Ad Network is activated, the cross bidding instance of Cross Bidding will be automatically created under all placements, the initial state is disabled.

Step 1:

  1. Click Monetize in the top navigation bar, or directly click the location of the selected App.

  1. Click Mediation in the APP navigation bar.
  2. You can filter through Ad Network and choose Cross Bidding.

  1. Or you can drag the Ad Network list to see the cross bidding Instance (cross_bidding) at the bottom.

Step 2:

The cross bidding Instance is closed by default in OpenMediation.

When you want to use this function, click the Enable button to activate the cross bidding Instance.

(When the cross bidding instance is closed, all the corss bidding Instances in the Mediation rule under the current placement will be closed.)

Step 3:

Add and activate the Instance of Cross Bidding in the Mediation Rule that requires cross bidding.

  1. After clicking the Waterfall function, click Edit of the selected Waterfall.

  1. Go to the Edit Mediation Rule page and click Enable to activate cross bidding.

How to create a cross bidding exclusive placement ?

The method of creating exclusive placement for cross bidding ads is the same as that of regular placement. You can refer to Placement Setting. The difference from other placement is that the mediation of this placement only includes the cross bidding Ad Network and Instance, and there is no need to create a Mediation Rule.

How to delivery campaigns ?

1.Create Campaign

Step 1:Select Cross Bidding function

  1. Select Cross Bidding in the top navigation bar.

  1. Click Campaigns on the left navigation bar of Cross Bidding.
  2. You can see Add Campaign in the upper right corner of the page.

Step 2: Add Campaign

1. Add Basic Information

  • Name:Set the Campaign’s name。
  • Type:Set the Campain’s type,(Now only support House Ads)。
  • Promote Type:Select the type of promotion, you can choose App Store or Webpage.

a.Select App Store

  • Promote App:Add an app to be promoted, you can add it by searching for the App ID, or directly entering the app store link (It cannot be changed after creation).

b.Select Webpage

  • Promote Webpage URL:Add a Webpage to be promoted。 (It cannot be changed after creation).
  • Open Webpage with:Select how to open the landing page,open in the current app(In-app WebView),or turn up the phone's default browser to open(Phone Browser).

  • Target Placements:You can choose Apps and their Placements to promote your app . (You can select multiple ad slots, not limited to cross-promotion exclusive ad slots.)
  • Click Tracking URL:Third-party Click track links, such as Appflyer, Adjust, etc. 
  • Impr. Tracking URL:Third-party impression track links, such as Appflyer, Adjust, etc. 

(For third-party tracking link configuration, please refer to The attribution tracking link configuration document.)

  • Schedule:The time period to be delivered, by default, starts from the current day and lasts for one year.
  • Frequency Capping:Restrictions on delivery frequency.

‘Limit to () impr. per Day on this Campaign’, is the upper limit of the number of times the ads in this campaign can be displayed in one day. 

‘Limit to() impr. per Day on one Device’, is the frequency limit for limiting the ads in this activity to be displayed on one device in one day.

2. Add Targeting App

  • Region:Set the country and region to be delivered, the default is All global delivery
  • Connection Types:Set the connection method WIFI, 2G, 3G and 4G, all are selected by default.
  • Device Type:Set the device type, Phone, Pad and TV, all are selected by default.

3. Add Pricing

  • Goal Type:There are two methods to set the price: Optimized for backfill and Manual eCPM.

a.Optimized for backfill: The tail is automatically filled, and the system will fill in the campaign when other instances in the waterfall are not filled.

 b.Manual eCPM:Manually set the price, you can set the global price, if there are specific bid requirements for certain countries, you can set the price for these countries.

4.Setup ads

a.Click Add Ads

Click + Add Ads in the Ads category, and the Ads Creator will pop up, through which you can add materials to the ads. The system will give suggestions for creating advertisements based on target Placement’s type.

b.Edit Ads

Among them, App and CampaignID will be defaulted according to the current window and cannot be changed.

  • Ad Type:Banner,Native,Video,Cross Promote 。
  • Name:Ad’s name
  • Title: Ad title, only used for non-standard placement.
  • Description: The description of Ads。

Among them, the creatives for advertising videos and pictures can be uploaded through ‘Upload’ in the upper right corner. The uploaded material will be saved on the server for easy reuse. After configuring the creative, you can click View full experience to see the full effect of the ad preview.

2. Manage Campaigns

  • Status:You can control the status of the Campaign through the switch. When the Campaign is closed, it is placed at the bottom of the list.
  • Operation:You can click Edit to edit an existing Campaign, or you can remove the Campaign through Remove.

How to  view Campaigns performance report

1. Navigate to the cross bidding report(Performance)

Step 1:Select Cross Bidding function

Step 2:View Perfromanc report

1. Filter

  • Date:Select the period for querying data. The maximum time range is 90 days.
  • Apps:Select to query a specific monetization application to query data.
  • Regions:Select a country and query the corresponding data.
  • Placement:Choose a Placement to understand the effect of different placements.
  • Promote App:Choose a promoted app and know the effect of the launch.

2. Breakdown

  • Day: View performance by day.
  • Hour: View performance by hour.
  • Target App: View performance by the target app.
  • Placement: View performance by placement.
  • Region: View performance by country and region.
  • Promote App: View performance by promoted app.
  • Campaign: View performance by campaign.
  • Ads: View performance by ad。

3. Metrics

  • Impressions: The number of times the campaign is viewed, here refers to how many times the cross-promotion campaign is viewed.
  • Clicks: The number of times the campaign is clicked, here refers to how many times the cross-promotion campaign is clicked.
  • CTR: Click Through Rate, the number of times the campaign is clicked divided by the number of times the campaign has been viewed.
  • Installs: The number of promoted applications installed by users.
  • CVR: Conversion Rate, the number of installs of the promoted app divided by the number of clicks.
  • Cost: The consumption data of campaigns, only used for statistical calculation.
  • CPI: Cost per Install,the consumption of each application installed.
  • CPM: Cost per Mille, the average cost of a campaign's thousand impressions.
